Bereavement counselling in Brussels

Grief is difficult in any context. It is particularly difficult when you are away from home, when the people who would ordinarily be present are not, when the demands of professional life do not pause to accommodate mourning, and when the support infrastructure that might normally absorb some of the weight does not exist in the city where you are living.

People in Brussels who are grieving often find themselves managing loss in a context that has no room for it, carrying it quietly, returning to work too quickly because there is no alternative, and finding that months or years later something that was never properly mourned is still present, still exerting its weight.

This practice offers English-language bereavement counselling for people in Brussels, online, unhurried, and at whatever pace the grief requires.

The work

Sessions are individual and private. Dr Jacquet brings 25 years of clinical experience to bereavement work, alongside a Jungian understanding of loss. One that takes seriously both the pain of grief and its capacity, over time, to become meaningful. The work does not impose a timetable on mourning or measure recovery against any model of how long grief should take.

The practice also supports people through forms of loss beyond bereavement: the end of a significant relationship, the loss of a professional role or identity, the grief that accompanies major life transitions. Loss does not require a death to be real, and it does not require social acknowledgement to merit proper support.

A practice shaped for Brussels

Brussels concentrates a very particular population: officials of the European institutions, NATO staff, diplomats, lawyers and lobbyists, and the international families that move with them. It is a city of high responsibility and frequent rotation, where many people are far from their support networks and careful about where they take personal difficulties. The practice serves this community in English and French, online by secure video, with the continuity that a weekly slot allows regardless of travel or rotation.

Getting started

No referral is needed. An initial online consultation can be arranged directly, a quiet, private conversation, at your pace.

Dr Philippe Jacquet is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, a Jungian analyst and an HCPC registered art psychotherapist, with twenty-five years of clinical practice. His Doctorate of Professional Practice at the University of Essex examined male eating disorders from the perspective of analytical psychology. Registration can be checked on either public register.

How the work is delivered from here

All international sessions are by secure video, in English or French. Online therapy is not a reduced version of consulting room work: it is the format that lets weekly work survive living abroad, travelling, or relocating. Sessions run in United Kingdom hours, which suits most regions, and if your time zone makes none of it workable, say so when you enquire rather than assuming it rules you out.

For clinicians and treatment services

Dr Jacquet supervises clinical teams in private residential addiction treatment and in a private psychiatric hospital. For treatment centres, psychiatric units and group practices looking for external clinical supervision, including in places where no supervisor of this seniority is available locally, team supervision is also delivered by video. For individual practitioners, see clinical supervision.
